Leuven Climate City Contract
Leuven's selection for the EU mission ‘100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030’ accelerates our work towards a climate-neutral future for our city. The Leuven Climate City Contract, a collaboration between the city of Leuven, Leuven 2030 and more than 30 key actors, is our plan to achieve this. Never before have we brought together so many perspectives and concrete commitments.
The Leuven Climate City Contract contains dozens of breakthrough projects to limit our CO2 emissions and remove barriers that stand in the way of rapid emission reductions. If we manage to scale up these projects, a CO2 reduction of 80% becomes possible. Over 25 key actors also formally commit to 10 guiding principles that put CO2 reduction at the heart of all their future initiatives. In addition, the Climate City Contract includes a financial plan that identifies investment needs and financial levers for the projects.
Below you will find a selection of breakthrough projects from the Leuven Climate City Contract. A full overview of all projects can be found in the magazine, which was published in spring 2024.
